We actively concentrate on Pain relief after all types of surgery to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Foot and Ankle surgery has traditionally been painful. With the advent of newer surgical techniques and bone fixation methods, the pain relief has greatly improved. This is further helped by modern techniques of introducing selective local anaesthetic nerve blocks (Ankle Block). The ankle block provides effective and lasting pain relief after foot surgery. Most patients are suitable for an ankle block procedure. Please ask your surgeon for more information about it. Oral painkiller tablets are then prescribed for continued pain relief.

The foot is rested in bandage after operation. It is recommended that it is kept elevated to avoid swelling. Putting ice e.g a bag of frozen peas, over the bandages or wrapped in a towel, helps both with pain and swelling. For some procedures, use of plaster cast may be required.
